The institution of artists-in-residence exists as a model to invite artists, academics, and the like to create new forms of artistic expression and to produce distinct bodies of work. Through social interaction or seclusion, residencies achieve art through aesthetic experience.
Numeroventi aims to provide an inspiring shelter to artists and creative professionals looking for a mental and physical space to develop their projects.
Over the years, Numeroventi has cultivated a global network of artists. We continue to bring talented international and local creative partners to Florence and work with influential businesses to assist our residents during their time.
We provide a living experience and cultural lexicon that facilitates space and inspiration for works of art. We offer accommodation, studio space, and chances to meet the artistic communities of Florence.
Housed across three floors of Palazzo Galli Tassi, our studio apartments and working spaces are flooded with natural light. Both options for seclusion or socialising are available, whether focused in the studio or outside in our shared spaces. There is an exchange of ideas and energy in every room.
The changing modality of our building is a reflection of Florence itself. A city that carries the essence of the Renaissance with every forward step into a new creative scene.
Numeroventi Artists in Residence program is an independent project and sustains itself by renting out its lofts to travellers that want to visit Florence from a different perspective. Application fee €50.
We also welcome duo artists.
We have 4 loft apartments, 2 kitchens, 1 co-working space, and studios that are all available for residents to use. They are assigned based on availability, but if you have a specific preference, you can make a request and we’ll do our best to save your favourite spot for you.
Your studio working space can be chosen according to your needs. Sometimes the space in your loft apartment is enough, and sometimes we will find a space that reflects your project. We’ll work it out together!
Included in stays of two weeks or more, a photography session will be available with our in-house photographer. Stays of one week will be offered a 50% concession.
The session includes:
1 portrait of the artist
1 portrait of the artwork
1 image of the studio
Styling and creative direction will be developed in collaboration between you and our creative team. We reserve the rights to use this material on our digital supports, for promotion, in magazine editorials, and for other marketing purposes.
Open Studio / Exhibition wall
An Open Studio will be set up in the end of the month of the residency program, and available for those who wish to participate. The Open Studio may therefor not happen during the week of your stay but will be curated as a final exhibition of 1 week featuring all the works (selected and in agreement with the artists exhibited).
Open Studios allow our local and international audience to discover you as an artist and your work.
We rarely exhibit pieces that were produced outside of our residency program; however if you feel that your already existing pieces would be a good fit, feel free to present your ideas to us. This can be integrated with what you produce during your residency, and curated for the final exhibition.
We see exhibitions at Numeroventi as conversations with the space, with the palace, and with the city of Florence as a whole.
Selecting process and acceptance is run by our Advisory Board.
Bring your +1
We know it’s impossible to stay in Florence and not share the experience with people you love, so let us know in advance if you’d like to have visitors come to stay. We’ll give you approval and arrange any bedding or extra items you may need so that everyone is comfortable. Price for an extra person is €30/night.
Other Terms & Conditions
We do not take any responsibilities for storage and/or shipping of artwork that may be left in the building after the residence.

Who does Numeroventi cater to?
We cater to anyone in the creative field, but we also welcome travellers with a passion for art and design interested in exploring Florence from a different perspective.
How does application round work?
We make the selection of applicants together with a panel of advisors who are professional artists, understanding the Numeroventi ethics and aesthetics.
Based on this we want to understand who you are and what you are planning to work on during your stay with us. It’s therefore important for you to share your portfolio, Instagram account, website, Tumblr, Dribble or any other platform of preference.
Is Numeroventi a public institution?
Our core idea is to invite artists and designers from all over the world to develop interdisciplinary collections together.
Numeroventi aims to act as a retreat, as a place where creatives can rediscover the core of their profession.
We are a small private and independent artist residency and do not receive external funding support. All income from the hospitality and venue is reinvested in the artist projects, giving us the opportunity to fund only a selected amount of residencies each year.
Can I exhibit my work at Numeroventi?
Out of the applicants we fund a few selected residents each year to exhibit in our space, we call it ‘Open Studios’.
However, if you wish to have your exhibition here or use our venue for private events, workshops etc, we are welcoming you to apply through our “Book Exhibition” form.
Can I get funded for my stay?
Most governments have grants to support artists and programs to pay for artist residencies.
If you want to apply for such grants of your own country, we are happy to assist you with the application by writing an official acceptance letter if necessary.
``The opportunity to spend time amongst the art, to walk its streets and feel the history of Florence in person, has provided me with an infinite source of inspiration during my stay, and certainly had an impact on the way I approached the residency``
Rich Stapleton, 2018
``For the first time, I felt like work and life can be closely interwoven in a very physical and bodily sense``
Yoon-Young Hur, 2019
``Numeroventi has represented the confirmation of the importance of dedicating some time per year to work on more personal and experimental projects, leaving our environment and intensively work together to obtain new and different results``
